Privacy policy

Last updated: 1 November 2026

The short version

  • We collect what you type into the waiting list form (your email address, whether you are a parent, student or teacher, and your school if you add it), and the results of climbs in our Tower Climb game.
  • Tower Climb never asks for a name, email address or age. Each player gets a made-up name, such as SwiftKraken42, and other players only ever see that name and how high and fast they climbed.
  • We use it to tell you about StudentRoyale, mainly when the beta opens.
  • We never sell it or use it for advertising, and this website doesn’t use analytics or advertising cookies.
  • You can delete your Tower Climb results with the “Delete my climbs” button in the game, and ask to see or delete anything else by emailing hello@studentroyale.com.

Who we are

StudentRoyale is a GCSE revision games website run by Adam Cox, based in Hertfordshire, England. Adam is the “data controller”, which means he is responsible for looking after your personal information.

You can contact us about anything in this policy at hello@studentroyale.com.

What this policy covers

This policy covers studentroyale.com, the StudentRoyale waiting list and the test version of our Tower Climb game at studentroyale.com/play. When more games and player accounts arrive, we will update this policy first.

What we collect

When you join the waiting list, we keep:

  • your email address
  • whether you are a parent or carer, a student aged 13 or over, or a teacher
  • your school’s name, if you choose to give it
  • the date you signed up

We don’t ask for your name, date of birth, phone number or home address.

To stop spam, the website briefly keeps a scrambled code made from your internet connection’s IP address. It can’t easily be turned back into the IP address, and it is deleted automatically after one hour.

Like most websites, our hosting company’s servers keep standard technical logs, such as IP addresses, browser types and the pages requested, so the site can run safely.

Tower Climb

Tower Climb is a revision game you can play without signing up. Here is exactly what it keeps.

On your own device, in your browser’s storage: your settings, your best floor each day, your day streak, your best climb (so you can race its ghost), your made-up name and a random code that tells our system which climbs came from this device. This stays on your device. Clearing your browser data removes it.

Online, when you finish a climb, we save:

  • your made-up name
  • a scrambled version of your device’s random code, so we can keep only your best climb each day and let you delete your climbs
  • which tower you climbed (subject and date)
  • how your climb went: the floor you were on at each moment of the 5 minutes

We do not save your answers, your name, your email, your age, your school or your location. Other players race the best climbs as “ghosts” and see their made-up names and leaderboard places. Made-up names come from a fixed list of words we chose, so they can’t contain anything personal or rude.

We do this because it is how the game works: racing other players is the feature you choose when you play. Our legal basis is legitimate interests, and we keep the information to the minimum the game needs.

Cookies

We don’t use analytics or advertising cookies, and we don’t track you across other websites. The only cookies WordPress sets are for people logged in to manage the website, which is just our team. Tower Climb uses your browser’s storage, as described above, only to make the game work. If we ever want to add analytics, we will ask you first and update this policy.

Why we use your information

  • To email you about StudentRoyale, mainly to tell you when the beta opens. We rely on your consent, which you give by joining the list. You can withdraw it at any time, and every email we send will include a way to unsubscribe.
  • To plan the launch, for example by counting how many parents, students and teachers have joined and from which schools. We rely on our legitimate interest in planning the service.
  • To keep the website safe from spam and attacks, using the scrambled code and server logs described above. We rely on our legitimate interest in protecting the site.

Children

StudentRoyale is made for GCSE students, so we take extra care.

  • Students aged 13 or over can join the waiting list themselves.
  • If you are under 13, please don’t sign up. Ask a parent or carer to join instead.
  • Anyone can play Tower Climb, because it asks for no personal details at all.
  • If we find out that someone under 13 has signed up, we will delete their details.
  • We never show students’ real names. When the games open, students will play under generated handles.

Who else sees it

We never sell or rent your information, and we never share it with advertisers. A small number of companies handle it for us, only so that we can run StudentRoyale:

  • Hostinger hosts our website and stores the waiting list on servers in the UK.
  • Cloudflare manages our domain names and email forwarding, and redirects studentroyale.co.uk to studentroyale.com.
  • Supabase stores Tower Climb results on servers in London.
  • An email delivery service will send the launch email. We will name it here before we use it.

We would only share your information with anyone else if the law required us to.

How long we keep it

We keep your waiting list details until you ask us to remove them, or until 12 months after the beta opens, whichever comes first. If StudentRoyale doesn’t launch, we will delete the list. Tower Climb results are deleted automatically after 30 days, or straight away if you press “Delete my climbs”. Spam-protection codes are deleted after one hour.

Your rights

Under UK data protection law, you can:

  • ask for a copy of the information we hold about you
  • ask us to correct it
  • ask us to delete it
  • withdraw your consent to our emails at any time
  • object to, or ask us to limit, how we use it
  • ask for your information in a format you can take elsewhere

To do any of these, email hello@studentroyale.com. It is free, and we will reply within one month. If you are 13 or over, you can ask yourself. A parent or carer can also ask on behalf of their child.

Complaints

If you are unhappy with how we have handled your information, please tell us first so we can put it right. You can also complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO), the UK’s data protection regulator, at ico.org.uk/make-a-complaint or on 0303 123 1113.

Changes to this policy

We will update this page whenever anything changes, including before the games open, and change the date at the top. If a change affects how we use your email address, we will email you about it first.
